How To Lay Tile

Laying stone tiles on a diagonal for a countertop?

Hermionesoul asked:

I am getting ready to tile over my white formica countertop with 18″ trqavertine tiles (yes, I already know this is not my best choice of materials, but will work for us). The countertop is 25″ deep. If I lay the tiles on the standard straight line, I end up with a lot of waste and an uneven look. If I lay the tiles on the diagnol, then the tiles have a depth of 25″ and no waste. I think this will add a “designer” touch to the countrtop. Mom says it will look weird. Husband has no opinion. What do you all think?

Do I have to glaze outdoor tiles? Why do they look dull after laying?

Cheetah asked:

I have porcelain tiles in my kitchen and outdoor patio. The kitchen tiles look good. However the outdoor tiles which are newly laid look dull. Is there some glaze which i can apply to make them look better ? The tiles have been laid just a month ago.

Laying tiles?

Be Still and know He’s God asked:

My dad layed tiles in his kitchen recently. He had some plywood type stuff that he layed them on top of so they are on a flat, even surface. But then someone told him he should have put a netting type stuff underneith the tiles too, to keep them from breaking. Is that very important, will his floor be ruined now?
