What is your experience with adhesive floor tiles?

floor tiles
DM asked:

I have a rental that currently has sheet vinyl in the kitchen that is in bad shape. I am considering putting in self adhesive floor tiles over the vinyl. I have installed similar flooring in a bathroom but used inexpensive tiles. It looked good, but the tiles tended to “slide”. I’m thinking it was because I used bargain tiles rather than better quality. I just need comments as to longevity and problems you might have encoutered with self adhesive tiles. Also, do you have any particular brand or type you recommend?

Floor Tiles?

demaissoneuve asked:

Some of the marble/Granite tiles are not much more expensive than porcelline type. Is there any other reason than the price, that I may not want to put marble/Granite tiles on my kitchen floor.

Laying stone tiles on a diagonal for a countertop?

laying tiles
Hermionesoul asked:

I am getting ready to tile over my white formica countertop with 18″ trqavertine tiles (yes, I already know this is not my best choice of materials, but will work for us). The countertop is 25″ deep. If I lay the tiles on the standard straight line, I end up with a lot of waste and an uneven look. If I lay the tiles on the diagnol, then the tiles have a depth of 25″ and no waste. I think this will add a “designer” touch to the countrtop. Mom says it will look weird. Husband has no opinion. What do you all think?

How to remove dark marks from off white kitchen tiles?

kitchen tiles
Cherry Blossom asked:

I have off-white kitchen tiles. When they were fitted they have some dark marks on them that the builder said was part of the design of the tile. How would I remove these stains/marks?

Ceramic tile – children friendly?

ceramic tile
JennieLouie asked:

i need osme feedback on the pros and cons of putting ceramic tile in my downstairs. It would be leading out to my slider and then on to my deck. i had intended to use a darker grout. I have 4 boys and two small dogs. I was going to use a textured tile. I’m afraid because it is so permanent. Any suggestions?
